Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been promoting regional development with steps taken in six major industries – dairy, biomedicine, photovoltaics, digital economy, modern logistics, and cultural tourism – according to local media reports.
The dairy industry is one of the city's most competitive industries. Hohhot will further promote the downstream extension of the industrial chain, and boost the value chain to the mid-to-high end. It will also further promote the production and effectiveness of two dairy industry projects: Yili Modern Smart Health Valley and Mengniu Dairy Industrial Park.

The city is to develop a world-class animal vaccine production, research and development base.
As the world's largest foot-and-mouth disease vaccine production base, Jinyu Bio-Technology has successfully built an autonomous region-level manufacturing innovation center, and has three national-level laboratories including the National Engineering Laboratory for Veterinary Vaccines.
In 2020, the first phase of Jinyu International Biotechnology Industrial Park and the high-level biosafety laboratory has been completed and put into operation.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the city will implement the Zhonghuan Photovoltaic Monocrystalline Silicon Phase V, its capacity expansion and Huayao Monocrystalline Silicon Slicing projects to further expand the production capacity of superior products and to develop a solar silicon material R&D and production base.

In 2020, Hohhot was recognized as a key center for the national internet network. A "Financial Cloud Valley" is scheduled to be developed in the city.
The Inner Mongolia HPC (high-performance computer) Public Service (Qingcheng Light), located in Horinger, Hohhot, won fourth place in China's top 100 high-performance computers of 2020 list, as well as sixth place in the "AIPerf 500" ranking.
In recent years, Horinger New Area has used its industrial base advantages to support the construction of a new generation of information infrastructure, and has accelerated the introduction of various big data and cloud computing infrastructure projects.
Three major operators – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – have established the largest cloud computing data center bases in Horinger, attracting enterprises including Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Inspur and Sinopec, as well as the data storage business of national ministries.
