Hohhot city, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is expected to get a real boost to its dairy sector – a pillar industry – with the planned Yili Modern Smart Healthy Valley facility, currently being built by local dairy giant Yili Group, according to local media reports.

A key project in the region, it has an international zero-carbon five-star design and has adopted strict accordance with zero-carbon requirements in the construction process.

Relying on the region's extensive energy supplies, the project is expected to drive the coordinated development of a zero-carbon industrial park, the city's new energy equipment industry and a new energy base.

Plans are for a raft of new energy projects, such as new energy charging piles, rooftop solar panels, industrial energy-saving systems and hydrogen storage facilities, to be built there.

On completion, it is expected there will be major improvements to the environment, as well as social and economic benefits.

The Yili Modern Smart Healthy Valley facility will be built as a new intelligent and modern eco-friendly area that integrates industry and city – boasting comprehensive functionality – occupying a space that is suitable for business, living, learning and tourism.

As the project's mainstay, the planned National Dairy Technology Innovation Center is expected to attract domestic and foreign dairy innovation resources and strive to meet national strategic needs as well as address industry issues, with the goal of becoming a globally influential dairy technology innovation hub.

Moreover, the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center will establish five research centers and three service platforms in order to undertake scientific research and provide a range of services.

With its complete industrial facilities and urban functions, a comprehensive improvement of environmental, social and economic benefits is expected to be achieved in 2035. Annual GDP is expected to hit 198.2 billion ($30.25 billion) by then and the region's population is predicted to reach 500-100 million.

Moving forwards, the Yili project is seen as becoming a major player in world's dairy industry and a model for the development of urban agglomerations.
