Hohhot city, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recently recorded a solid performance by its tourism industry, which generated a May Day holiday revenue of 331 million yuan ($49.65 million), according to local media reports.
Over the five-day break, from April 30 to May 4, tourists made 630,800 trips to the metropolis.
On May 3 alone, visitors made 167,917 trips to Hohhot and the city generated tourism income of 93.32 million yuan.
Most tourists coming to the city chose short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Daqing Mountain and Dazhao Temple.
Tourists from Hohhot and Baotou cities accounted for 93.75 percent of the total tourists.
To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city strengthened its novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control measures and introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions, with special arrangements in place to ensure adequate numbers of officials were on duty to handle any complaints over the break.
