Hohhot city – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has made marked advancements in sci-tech innovation in a bid to boost its regional development, according to local media reports.

In the first half of the year, the municipal science and technology bureau directed 26.76 million yuan ($3.95 million) in financial incentive funds to 194 eligible innovation business entities falling into 11 categories.

Hohhot has actively attracted a total of 517 new higher-level scientific and technological projects, with a capital of 269.14 million yuan. Five companies have developed six autonomous regional level seed industry innovation demonstration projects.

This year, the city has confirmed it will implement 73 municipal-level sci-tech projects, with a total of 56.5 million yuan in project funds.

To date, the city has seen the establishment of 504 innovation platforms of various types and at all levels. There are 137 engineering technology research centers, 102 key laboratories, 239 enterprise technology development centers, 14 autonomous region new technology research and development institutions – as well as 12 autonomous region academician expert workstations.

The Yili Global Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park – part of Yili Future Intelligence and Health Valley – officially started operations on July 12 in Hohhot.

This is the latest in a raft of key projects for Yili Future Intelligence and Health Valley that have now been completed and gone into use. They include a global liquid milk intelligent manufacturing plant, a global milk powder intelligent manufacturing plant, the Chilechuan intelligent ecological ranch and the Yili intelligent manufacturing experience center.

Yili Future Intelligence and Health Valley facility is being developed as an intelligent and modern eco-friendly complex that integrates industry and city – boasting comprehensive functionality and occupying a space that is suitable for business, living, learning and tourism.

The country's only national dairy technology innovation center has settled in the valley.
