Hohhot city – capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has been making great strides in strengthening the treatment and protection of the Dahei River, as well as in developing a natural landscape belt along the river, according to local media reports.

The Yuquan section of the Dahei River has a total length of about 12.7 kilometers and is a naturally formed seasonal waterway.

In recent years, as Hohhot has strengthened the management and protection of the Dahei area, a rural river (beach) wetland with a total of more than 6,800 mu (453 hectares) has formed there. The Dahei River and the Daqing Mountain region to the north are said to constitute a unique ecological environment barrier in Hohhot.

Hohhot's Yuquan district has carried out comprehensive management and upgrading of the Dahei River region. The work aims at recreating dense forests, boosting natural floodplains and improving islands and establishing fields of flowers and crops, among other things.

Plans are for Yuquan to carry out the overall transformation of villages on the north bank, encourage the surrounding villages to open homestays and farmhouses and guide farmers to plant sunflowers, rape seed and other tourist sightseeing crops – bringing prosperity to villagers along the route and helping to boost rural vitalization.
