Taijiying village, located in the Horinger New Area in Hohhot – capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has entered the last alfalfa harvesting season of the year, according to local media reports.
Alfalfa is a plant that is high in vitamins and minerals. People eat it as a sprouted green or use it as a garnish. It is also commonly grown as food for livestock.
The Hohhot village has extensively implemented its rural revitalization strategy and has started to intensively cultivate alfalfa, in an initiative that takes advantage of the ideal local conditions for the crop.
It has rolled out large-scale modern agricultural planting of alfalfa. Through an internet remote control system, farmers can use their mobile phones to control the intelligent sprinkler irrigation in the fields anytime and anywhere, to integrate the supply of water and fertilizer.
Alfalfa can be harvested four times each year, with a per-mu yield of 1 metric ton of alfalfa hay or 2.2 tons of wrapped alfalfa – and the output has reached a high level in China.
