Hohhot city – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – recently recorded a particularly strong performance in its tourism industry, with revenue generated during the Spring Festival holiday coming in at 707 million yuan ($105 million).
This represented a year-on-year growth of 6.09 percent, according to the Hohhot culture, tourism, radio, film and television bureau.
Over the seven-day break on Jan 21-27, tourists made 1.5 million trips to the city, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent. The growth rate was 3.31 percentage points higher than the national average.
Tourists from within the autonomous region accounted for 88.6 percent of the total and tourists from outside the autonomous region accounted for the balance. Tourists from outside Inner Mongolia were mainly from surrounding provinces and cities, such as Beijing, Hebei province, Tianjin, Shaanxi province and Shanxi province.
To maintain a safe and orderly environment for the tourists, the city strengthened its novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control measures and introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions.
There were also special arrangements in place to ensure that adequate numbers of officials were on duty to handle any complaints over the break.
