The city of Hohhot – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – is to cooperate with the Palace Museum in the wake of a framework agreement signed on Feb 14 in Beijing, according to a report in the Hohhot Daily.
Palace Museum executive deputy president Lou Wei and Hohhot deputy mayor Zhang Jifei signed the document, with Luo Xianliang, vice-president of the Palace Museum, presiding over the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, Beijing's Palace Museum and Hohhot will uphold the tenet of "inheritance and innovation" and adhere to the principles of complementary advantages, resource sharing, mutual benefit and common development.
The two will work closely together in the planning and establishment of a joint studio for cultural relics protection and restoration, joint exhibitions and joint development of cultural and creative products.
They will carry out in-depth cooperation in the protection of historical and cultural heritage, exhibition displays, cultural creativity and talent training – to inherit and promote traditional Chinese culture.
The Palace Museum in Beijing is a comprehensive facility of its kind in China – the largest museum of ancient culture and art in the country that is in one of the three major palaces in the world.
It was established in 1925 and is situated in the Forbidden City in Beijing. Its magnificent store of artifacts is drawn from, but is not limited to, the imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and their collections.
