Hohhot's new materials industry is rapidly gaining momentum, with major developments led by key players like Inner Mongolia Tianhao Fiberglass Co. At the company's Horinger county facility, automated forklifts and robotic arms seamlessly produce high-performance glass fibers.
On Oct 8, company representative Yun Bin explained the complex process of creating fiberglass from raw materials such as pyrophyllite. "It involves melting raw materials at 1600 C for several hours, followed by a series of processes to produce fine, strong glass fibers," Yun said. The facility produces 11 types of glass fibers, which are used in various industries.
Tianhao's project, with a total investment of 6 billion yuan ($839 million), aims to produce 600,000 metric tons of high-performance fiberglass annually. When completed, it will be the largest fiberglass production base in North and Northwest China, generating 5 billion yuan annually and creating 1,400 jobs. The first phase, launched in April 2024, has already yielded 24 million yuan.
Hohhot is focusing on manufacturing new materials and equipment, signing 94 projects with a total investment of 127.99 billion yuan in 2024. The city's commitment to technological innovation and industrial growth is driving its position as a leader in this sector.
