Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is embracing the winter season with a booming ice and snow economy. Skiers and visitors have flocked to local attractions like Mazongshan Ski Resort, creating a vibrant scene of activity and joy.
The city actively promotes winter sports, culture, and tourism. Its efforts include hosting professional ice and snow events, enhancing facilities, and nurturing young talent. Notable successes include the 2024 "14th Winter Games" cross-country skiing and speed skating events, which attracted over 16,000 spectators and achieved significant media coverage, boosting Hohhot's visibility.
Since 2021, the annual "Hohhot Ice and Snow Sports Season" has drawn over one million participants yearly. This December, the fifth edition will feature activities across a 70,000-square-meter venue, including ice sculpture displays, firework shows, and family-friendly events. Public ice and snow facilities will also be freely available in all districts.
Winter sports have ignited a passion among locals and visitors alike. Beijing student Hu Xiaoran, who visited during the Chinese New Year, praised the city's charm and plans to return. Hohhot's investment in winter tourism not only attracts visitors but also bolsters local industries, enhancing its reputation as a winter wonderland.
