Hohhot sets goals for dairy industry in 2025
This year, the Hohhot municipal government's work report proposed the city's vision for 2025: to further elevate the "China's Dairy Capital" brand and make significant strides toward establishing itself as the "World's Dairy Capital".
Hohhot is a key dairy production region in China, consistently ranking first nationwide in core metrics, including the population of high-quality dairy cows, milk production, per capita milk availability, and milk processing capacity. Known as "China's Dairy Capital", Hohhot is the only city in the world to be home to two of the world's top 10 dairy companies: Yili Group, ranked fifth, and Mengniu Dairy, ranked eighth.
The city has designated the dairy industry as its top priority, establishing the most advanced green and intelligent manufacturing base in the country. Its dairy cluster has been recognized as a national advanced manufacturing cluster.
According to the work report, by 2025, Hohhot will complete and launch projects including Yili's third-phase milk powder and cheese plants, Mengniu's lactoferrin deep-processing and ninth-phase milk powder facilities, and Shengmu's low-temperature dairy product plant with a daily capacity of 500 metric tons.
In addition, the city will promote the establishment of a national milk powder reserve mechanism, attract and implement DSM-Firmenich's probiotics project, and begin construction on forage industry parks by Youran Dairy and M-grass Group.
Efforts will also be made to upgrade food industry parks in Yuquan district and the high-altitude specialty agricultural and livestock product processing zone in Wuchuan county, with the cluster's output value expected to reach 50 billion yuan ($6.87 billion).
