Hohhot drives industrial upgrading and innovation for high-quality growth
Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, actively advanced new industrialization in 2024, seeing the added value of industries above a designated size grow by 8 percent, with over 60 percent of 29 major industrial sectors achieving growth. The industrial economy continued to serve as a stabilizing force in maintaining the city's overall economic stability.
To speed up the digital transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, efforts were made to support more enterprises in driving technological innovation, optimizing production processes, and reducing costs.
The city launched a large-scale equipment renewal initiative in the industrial sector, aligning with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's 27 key industries and four focus areas. The Hohhot bureau of industry and information technology established a financing demand project database and organized recommendations for enterprises to apply for national technology transformation relending funds, securing nearly 1 billion yuan ($138 million) in low-interest loans. As a result, industrial-technological transformation investment in the city doubled, ranking first in the region.
Hohhot was selected as a national pilot city for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and an autonomous region-level manufacturing digital transformation pilot.
Over the next two years, the city plans to implement digital upgrades for 350 SMEs. To comprehensively enhance SME digital capabilities, the city will promote digitalization through demonstration, experience-sharing, and replication.
The city also introduced the "Ten Policies for New Industrialization Development", offering substantial financial support to encourage high-end, intelligent, and green manufacturing. Nearly 1 billion yuan in special funds for industrial development was allocated to support nearly 100 enterprises and projects.
These efforts delivered remarkable results. Throughout the year, 66 new industrial enterprises above a designated size were added. Hohhot nurtured 37 autonomous region-level technologically advanced SMEs, 145 innovative SMEs, and two specialized industrial clusters.
The city also helped enterprises earn recognition as autonomous region-level smart factories, digital workshops, enterprise technology centers, and green factories.
