Hohhot's industry thrives during 14th Five-Year Plan period
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Hohhot's GDP grew at an average annual rate of 6.1 percent, exceeding 400 billion yuan ($57.95 billion). A total of 5,198 key projects were launched, with investments exceeding 650 billion yuan.
The added value of the primary industry rose to 18.13 billion yuan. Several banners and counties were approved as national-level and autonomous-region-level modern agricultural industrial parks. The dairy, potato, and millet clusters were recognized as nationally advantageous and distinctive industrial clusters.
The added value of the secondary industry increased to 128.85 billion yuan. The added value of high-tech manufacturing grew at an average annual rate of 30.4 percent. The dairy industry's entire industrial chain revenue exceeded 300 billion yuan. Investment in the electronic information technology industry grew at an average annual rate of 87.9 percent, and the Horinger Data Center was incorporated into Inner Mongolia autonomous region's advanced manufacturing cluster.
The biomanufacturing industry's output value grew at an average annual rate of 9.2 percent, establishing the world's largest production bases for medicines such as Coenzyme Q10 and an intelligent manufacturing base for foot-and-mouth disease vaccines. The world's first intelligent manufacturing project for mRNA vaccines and nucleic acid drugs was launched.
The low-altitude economy industrial park began operation, the city was approved as one of the first national Beidou large-scale application pilot cities, and the region's first aerospace economic development zone began operations.
The added value of the tertiary industry increased to 280.85 billion yuan. The city has created a number of popular attractions, with 32 tourist sites rated 4A or above. Streets like Kuangxiangzi became trendy social media check-in spots.
