Huzhou is striving to promote construction of a State agricultural model area and provincial-level pilot city for modern ecosystem agriculture. The level of agricultural modernization in Huzhou continues to rank first in Zhejiang province.

In 2018, Huzhou achieved a total output value in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries of 21.64 billion yuan ($3 billion) and per capita net income for rural residents of 31,767 yuan, increasing by 2.3 and 9.5 percent year-on-year.
