Nanxun district is located on the eastern part of Huzhou, covering an area of 702 square kilometers with a population of 490,000. It has jurisdiction over nine towns and a province-level economic development zone – Nanxun Economic Development Zone. 

Located in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta region, the district boasts outstanding geographical features and at the forefront for Huzhou's connections to Shanghai. 

It lies roughly equidistant -- at 100 km -- to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. In addition, the No 318 State Road, Huzhou-Haiyan freeway, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and some other major channels pass through the district. 

Nanxun, Huzhou's first national 5A-level tourist attraction, has been labeled as one of the 10 most charming towns in China. With its uniquely preserved  ancient water-town style and original  Jiangnan-style  gardens, Nanxun water-town has been shortlisted in a list of candidates for entry into the list of UNESCO world historical and cultural heritage. 

Nanxun town has been granted the title of national pilot area for sustainable development and honored as the most valuable zone for investment in the Yangtze River Delta region. 

Fortune Global 500 enterprises, including Tyco International and Kone Corporation, have settled down in the district.
