Nanxun implements annual health day for local people

Nanxun district in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province recently decided to designate May 15 as an annual health day for locals starting in 2020.

The proposal was approved by the standing committee of the 4th people's congress of the district at the 23rd meeting of the congress.

This is the first health day to be implemented in the province. The district will hold a series of health-themed activities and strive to teach locals how to stay healthy, said an official of the district's health commission.

So far, the district has built five groups of experts consisting of dietitians, exercise instructors, health management instructors, mental health experts and health popularization experts in a bid to increase the effectiveness of the health-themed activities.

Since the beginning of this year, Nanxun has held more than 600 activities, attracting over 50,000 people in the district.

The district held a series of health-themed activities for locals on May 15, 2019, including a power-walking contest, several health lectures, and free medical consultations and health services in order to prepare for the establishment of the health day.

In addition, the district decided to invest 1.5 million yuan ($212,377) each year into the construction and development of basic health projects in local schools, communities and villages.
