An international forum on the sustainable development of the electricity industry was held on Oct 24 in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

The forum, which was held by Huzhou's municipal government, mainly focused on the development of the electric power industry.

Over 160 experts from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative attended the forum and shared their ideas and experience on the sustainable development of the industry.

An index for the sustainable development of the electric power industry made by the China Economic Information Service, which was formally established in 2016, was released at the forum, the first of its kind in China.

The index takes into account over 40 indicators, covering many sections of the electricity industry, such as electricity generation and distribution.

Huzhou is known as the cradle of the environmentally friendly "Two Mountains" theory, in which clear waters and lush mountains are treated as invaluable assets, comparable to the gold and silver mountains of legend.

The city has been dedicated to the green development of the industry in recent years and to this end has developed a number of projects, such as a shore power promotion project.

Shore power refers to the provision of shore-side electrical power to a ship at berth.
