A series of artificial intelligence (AI) games for adolescent students was held in Deqing county, Huzhou, Zhejiang province on Nov 30.

The event, which is the first of its kind in the county, consisted of a number of different categories, including robot microfilm shooting, unmanned aerial vehicle flying, programming and tracking robot controlling.

A total of 906 students from 65 local primary schools, secondary schools and kindergartens participated in the event, which was held by the district's bureau of education, bureau of big data development and the Deqing Association for Science and Technology.

According to the organizing committee, the event was held to increase interest in AI technologies among local students, improve logical and critical thinking, and encourage team work.

Deqing was approved to build a pilot area for the innovative development of new-generation AI by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China this year.

Since then, the county has taken full advantage of existing AI industries to promote AI to local students.

Recent data showed that about 60 percent of local primary and secondary schools in the county have built AI laboratories and encouraged students to participate in AI related competitions.

The county has also issued a five-year plan for AI education.
