A Meng Tian worship ceremony is held on the 16th day of the ninth lunar month every year to commemorate Meng Tian, who is recognized as the ancestor of the ink brush.

Huzhou is home to the Huzhou ink brush, and Meng, a general of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) is considered the god of the Huzhou ink brush industry. According to legend, Meng married a women named Bu Xianglian in Shanlian town of Huzhou, and taught her the skill of making ink brushes. The Meng Tian worship ceremony is traditional for ink brush craftsmen in Shanlian town, which won a special place in Chinese history thanks to the technology of ink brush making.
