Huzhou University is a full-time comprehensive university for regular undergraduates. Its history dates back to 1916 when the Qiantang Dao (Dao was an old administrative unit, like a county) set up the No 3 Teachers' Training School. It began to carry out the higher educational program in 1958, and started to recruit undergraduates in 1994. It is qualified to recruit and cultivate postgraduates and doctoral graduates in 2012 and 2013.

Covering 106 hectares, Huzhou University is located in Huzhou, Zhejiang province. The university is composed of 13 secondary schools, one independent college–Qiuzhen College – six affiliated hospitals, two clinical medical schools and four affiliated schools. It has more than 19,000 full-time students, including 227 postgraduates. Its library, with an overall floorage of 44,000 square meters, has more than 3,680,000 books.

Huzhou University offers 53 undergraduate programs in 11 disciplines: education, engineering, agriculture, medical science, science, literature, economics, art, law, management and history.

There are over 2,700 faculties, including 221 teachers with senior professional titles and 505 with deputy senior professional titles. The ratio of teachers with doctoral degrees has reached 42 percent. One teacher and an alumnus won the 35th and 42th Florence Nightingale medals for exceptional nursing.

The university has engineering laboratories jointly sponsored by nation and local governments as well as international laboratories. Moreover, it also has 10 provincial key labs and major innovation service platforms. The university has eight first-rate subjects at provincial level and 10 key subjects at municipal level. It has two national characteristic specialties, 26 provincial key specialties, four national excellent courses and 33 provincial excellent courses. In the past five years, the university has obtained 90 scientific research projects, won four national teaching achievement awards for higher education and 19 provincial teaching achievement awards for higher education.

It has set up industry-university-research cooperation with over 500 enterprises and public institutions inside and outside the province, with the Huzhou Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for undergraduates an example. Eight of its subjects are provincial key disciplines, including mechanical engineering, computer science and technology, aquatic profession and nursing.

The university has cooperated with Azerbaijan and the Chinese Academy of Social Science to set up a Confucius Institute and a Center for Cross-Cultural Research. In addition, it carries out close exchanges and cooperation with some 60 colleges and institutions from over 20 countries and regions. To date, it has more than 600 overseas students from 46 nations, including France, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
