The city of Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province will set up 2,640 signal stations for 5G network connection in 2020.

The stations can realize 5G coverage in the central areas of the city as well as the districts and counties under its jurisdiction, according to the municipal bureau of economy and information technology.

In recent years, the city has been striving to promote the construction of 5G network connection infrastructure, officials said.

So far, the city currently has more than 7,600 basic network stations and nearly 100 newly built 5G signal stations.

"In the future, the 5G network will play a very important role in urban development," said an official at the bureau of economy and information technology. "To give full play to 5G, the municipal government has issued a plan to promote the construction of relevant infrastructure."

According to the plan, the city will launch around 6,000 5G signal stations by the end of 2022 and about 11,800 such stations in 2025.

In addition, the city will pilot 5G application in the areas of ultra-high-definition video, the internet of vehicles and intelligent robots.
