Huzhou is in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta region and lies within the common hinterland of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing. As a node city, Huzhou connects the north and south wings of the Yangtze River Delta and the east central region. It is 130 kilometers away from Shanghai, 75 km from Hangzhou and 220 km from Nanjing.
Huzhou boasts a first-class rail system, network of freeways and inland river water transit ports. Its outstanding transport infrastructure includes the Nanjing-Hangzhou High-speed Railway, Shangqiu-Hangzhou High-speed Railway (completed by 2020), the Huzhou-Suzhou-Shanghai High-speed Railway (completed around 2020) and State Road 104 and State Road 318.
In addition, the Changxing-Huzhou-Shanghai waterway, dubbed the "Oriental Rhine" and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal - running through the city - guarantees that Huzhou is a transport hub for the Yangtze River Delta region.
