Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province was recently designated as a national demonstration city for the standardization of tourism, the only city in Zhejiang to win the honor, according to local media reports.

Since August 2018, the city has invested more than 1.2 billion yuan ($184.61 million) to promote the standardization of tourism services.

As of now, Huzhou is home to 76 scenic spots above national 3A level—the third highest in China's grading system for scenic spots, 34 star-rated hotels, 23 provincial quality tourism agencies, 16 provincial characteristic culture hotels, 22 provincial fruit and vegetable picking bases, 69 provincial quality homestays, and 727 provincial A-level villages.

The promotion of tourism standards has greatly enhanced the service quality of scenic spots, hotels and travel agencies, noted a head official at the Huzhou municipal bureau of culture, radio, television and tourism.

In 2019, Huzhou welcomed 132.35 million tourists from home and abroad, generating 152.91 billion yuan, up 24.07 percent and 38.39 percent respectively compared with 2017.
