Huzhou sees rapid recovery in consumption

Total retail sales of consumer goods in Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province stood at 111.34 billion yuan ($16.14 billion) from January to October, official data from the Huzhou municipal bureau of commerce show.

The number was still less than the same period last year, but a modest improvement over the January-September period. Among them, retail sales of consumer goods by above-quota enterprises amounted to 34.94 billion yuan.

In the first 10 months, sales of furniture, clothing items and daily necessities by above-quota companies increased significantly, with year-on-year increases of 28.6 percent, 28.3 percent and 23.9 percent respectively.

Over the same period, online retail sales in the city reached 58.75 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 23.2 percent, ranking third in the province, while online spending amounted to 35.75 billion yuan, up 11 percent year-on-year.

Notably, the turnover of cross-border e-commerce reported by the city was 12.11 billion yuan from January to October, up 93.9 percent, among which retail exports totaled 530 million yuan, an increase of 82.9 percent, ranking the first in Zhejiang and 57.3 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
