Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province recently updated the system rolled out by the city last year to evaluate companies' energy consumption efficiency and carbon emission performances.

The updated version features a more comprehensive appraisal system, is connected to the city's enterprise service system, and has channels to services related to technological upgrading and green financing.

In 2021, Huzhou unveiled the system which classifies companies related to metal smelting, textiles and other high energy consumption sectors according to their carbon emissions and output value.

Companies can check which of the five grades they belong to by scanning a QR code. The carbon emissions are calculated based on energy consumption data.

The system, which is the first of its kind in China, has been promoted across Zhejiang.

To date, it has been utilized in 3,800 companies above designated size in Huzhou, and 42,000 enterprises of similar size in Zhejiang.

China aims to hit peak emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
