Huzhou-filmed TV drama broadcasted

The long-awaited People by the Canal, a TV series with more than 90 percent of its scenes filmed in Huzhou, East China, was aired on Channel 1 of the China Central Television on Aug 1.

The drama, which stars renowned actors Wang Lei and Han Xue, was also broadcasted on video platforms including Youku, Tencent, iQiyi and Mango TV.

The show tells a story of a group of people living near the Grand Canal and explores topics including water pollution treatment, ecological conservation, culture, tourism and common prosperity.

Director Pan Jingcheng said Huzhou's commitment to preserving local culture and ecology left a deep impression on him and is reflected in the theme of the drama.

Wang Zhihui, chief producer of the drama, expressed hope that the TV series will make more people pay attention to Huzhou and visit it to learn about its green development path.
