Huzhou's Deqing county was recently included in a pilot program launched by Zhejiang province to develop future industries.

Future industry refers to new products and business forms created by the industrialization of major innovative achievements or disruptive technologies.

The program will see Deqing serve as a pilot area for the Beidou geographical information future industry.

The county is currently home to a provincial geographical information industrial park, which has 400-plus enterprises that generate over 26 billion yuan ($4 billion) in combined revenue every year.

It has also been making concerted efforts to develop industrial clusters that apply geographical information technologies in fields including artificial intelligence, general aviation and the internet of vehicles.

In May, the United Nations Global Geographic Information Knowledge and Innovation Center was set up in Deqing county. The center, which is affiliated to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, is the first organization directly under the United Nations Secretariat in China.

Apart from the geographical information industry in Deqing, Huzhou will strive to include Changxing county's new energy industry and Wuxing district's advanced equipment and semiconductor industries in the program, said an official at the Huzhou municipal bureau of economy and information technology.
