The first university in Huzhou's Nanxun district welcomed its first batch of about 5,000 students from Sept 17 to 18.

The new campus of the Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power was inaugurated in Nanxun at the beginning of this month.

The 1,271-mu (84.73 hectares) campus broke ground in November 2020 after its construction was approved by the provincial government.

The school is composed of eight secondary colleges offering 31 undergraduate majors and six junior majors. It is equipped with testing facilities, a smart storage microgrid, and an irrigation system that will help students gain a better understanding of their fields.

Ni Jialin, 28, is the oldest among the freshmen. He said that he wanted to further his studies after serving in the army for five years.
