Huzhou tourism picks up during National Day holiday

Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province saw nearly 100,000 railway passenger trips during the week-long National Day holiday which ended on Oct 7.

The number of passenger trips peaked at 20,361 on the first day of the seven-day break, according to local railway authorities.

An official at the Huzhou Railway Station said that passengers travelled to the city primarily for purposes including visiting relatives and sightseeing.

Campsites, farms and theme parks were among the most popular destinations for visitors.

A host of cultural and tourism activities, including exhibitions, concerts and puppet shows, were held during the holiday.

The holiday period also witnessed a boom in consumption.

Official data show that the sales of 57 monitored businesses, including shopping malls, supermarkets, car dealerships, hotels, and restaurants, in Huzhou amounted to 388 million yuan ($59.69 million) during the holiday.

Nighttime consumption in the city also grew during the holiday.

Three commercial blocks including the Aishan Square generated 10.79 million yuan in nighttime revenue during the period, up 6.7 percent year-on-year.

The nighttime revenue for eight supermarkets and four restaurants that were monitored hit 11.49 million yuan and 1.2 million yuan, up 6.4 percent and 9.2 percent respectively.

Car sales also spiked during the holiday. The 14 sampled car dealerships in Huzhou generated a combined revenue of 63.4 million yuan during the seven-day period.
