Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has made strides in the pursuit of balanced urban-rural development over the past decade.

The income level of local residents saw robust growth from 2012 to 2021. During this period, the per capita disposable income of urban residents rose from 32,987 yuan ($5,074.9) to 67,983 yuan, while the incomes of their rural counterparts surged from 17,188 yuan to 41,303 yuan, according to data from the Huzhou branch of the National Bureau of Statistics.

The income ratio between urban and rural residents in Huzhou stood at 1.65 in 2021. This was the ninth year in a row that the city's urban-rural income gap narrowed.

Residents' consumption expenditures have also increased in tandem with income growth. From 2013 to 2021, the city's per capita consumption expenditure registered an average annual uptick of 8.8 percent. The consumption among rural residents grew at faster pace than that of urban residents.

In 2021, the per capita housing area for local urban and rural residents stood at 43.2 square meters and 69.2 square meters respectively.

In 2021, every 100 households in its rural areas owned 65 cars, nearly on par with the 74 in urban areas.
