The geographical information industry in Huzhou's Deqing county was recently included in a national pilot program to facilitate the certification of small and micro enterprise quality management system.

One hundred companies from Deqing will be included in the pilot program at the initial stage, paving the way for further application across the county.

Deqing has in recent years been leveraging the quality management system certification to boost the development of local small and micro enterprises.

A number of internationally advanced quality management standards and excellent methods has been introduced and applied in the local geographical information industry.

Data show that Deqing is currently home to a provincial geographical information industrial park, which has 400-plus enterprises that generate over 26 billion yuan ($3.71 billion) in combined revenue every year.

Of these companies, 14 are listed among the top 100 companies in the geographic information industry in China and five are among the top 100 small and medium-sized companies in terms of development vitality in the field.

In addition, the county has introduced 24 research institutes, such as the Deqing Research Institute of Satellite Application of the China Academy of Science and the Turbine Research Institute of Zhejiang University.

It has also been making concerted efforts to develop industrial clusters that apply geographical information technologies in various fields, including artificial intelligence, general aviation and internet of vehicles.

In May, the United Nations Global Geographic Information Knowledge and Innovation Center was set up in Deqing county. The center, which is affiliated to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, is the first organization directly under the United Nations Secretariat in China.
