Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province staged a parallel session on the sidelines of the ongoing 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, or COP15, in Montreal, Canada, on Dec 10.
The conference was attended by a bevy of luminaries including Zhao Yingmin, vice minister of ecology and environment, and Zhang Heng, deputy consul-general of the Consulate General of China in Montreal.
Lang Wenrong, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, pointed out at the meeting that Huzhou, which is located in northernmost part of Zhejiang, serves as an important "window" that showcases the province's achievements in the construction of ecological civilization.
Hong Hupeng, mayor of Huzhou, noted that Huzhou, as the cradle of the concept "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with cities around the world, and make concerted efforts to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
A number of characteristic products from Huzhou including silk, writing brush, Anji white tea and bamboo-made products were also displayed during the conference.
Three days earlier, Huzhou was conferred the title of International Cooperation Demonstration Zone of Ecological Civilization during the Sino-Quebec Cooperation Forum, an integral part of COP 15 that will run until Dec 19.
Huzhou is the only city in the world to be given the honor.
