The Huzhou Science and Technology Bureau was recently honored as an advanced collective in the national science and technology management system, local media reported.

The bureau is one of only three recipients of the honor, which is conferred by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology every five years, in Zhejiang.

Huzhou has in recent years made concerted efforts to spur innovation as it pursues the goal of becoming an innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta.

The city was ranked 30th nationwide in China in terms of innovation capability in 2021, according to a report released by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.

That same year, Huzhou's R&D spending accounted for 3.15 percent of the city's economic output. Its investments in high-tech industries grew by 31.5 percent from a year earlier, with the growth rate being the second highest in the province.

In July 2022, the city also received approval from the State Council to build a national demonstration zone for the sustainable development of agenda innovation, becoming the only city from Zhejiang to be included in the program.

A month later, the Xisai Scientific Valley was inaugurated in Huzhou on the sidelines of the 2022 China Green Low Carbon Innovation Conference, which took place in Huzhou and was attended by 11 academicians from home and abroad.

Projects in photoelectric, semiconductor and other emerging industries with a combined investment value of 1.85 billion yuan ($264.29 million) have been established in the valley to date, official statistics show.
