Xiaomeishan, which literally means Small Plum Hill, is widely deemed as the best place to admire plum blossoms in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.
The 77-meter-high hill was named after Fan Li, a statesman, strategist and militarist in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), who planted plum trees there, before rising to fame because of Su Shi, a renowned poet and statesman during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), who wrote a poem about the pink flowers during his reign in Huzhou.
To promote it as a destination to enjoy plum blossoms, the local government recently launched a tourism festival revolving around plum blossoms at the Xiaomeishan Scenic Spot.
In addition to flower appreciation, the festival, which is scheduled to run until the end of this month, will feature activities related to tea making, flower arrangement as well as painting and calligraphy exhibitions.
