The Yangtze River Delta Sports Festival opened in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on April 27, local media reported.

The festival, which is in its third edition this year, will see more than 30 sports events and activities staged in the delta, a region encompassing the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui as well as Shanghai municipality.

Government officials, including Zheng Yao, head of the Zhejiang Provincial Sports Bureau, and Hong Hupeng, mayor of Huzhou, as well as world champions the likes of Gao Lei and Lu Chunlong (trampoline), Xu Dongxiang (rowing) and Zhou Lyuxin (diving) participated in the opening ceremony.

One of the five co-host cities of the 19th Asian Games, Huzhou will host the women's volleyball events and 3-on-3 basketball competitions of the Games.

Hong expressed hope that more people would come to Huzhou to seek new opportunities in the games and sports industry.

Following the opening ceremony, organizers kicked off the Yangtze River Delta Sports Carnival with contests and fitness programs related to spin bikes and battle ropes.
