Huzhou shooter claims gold at ISSF World Championships

Han Jiayu, hailing from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, claimed the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle individual event at the 2023 ISSF World Championships held in Baku, Azerbaijan on Aug 19.

In her debut appearance at the world-class event, Han Jiayu displayed incredible skill and determination. With a score of 251.4 points, she surpassed her teammate Wang Zhilin in the second half of the final, securing the top spot on the podium. Wang Zhilin was the runner-up, while Indian shooters claimed the third and fourth places.

Han Jiayu's success extended beyond the individual competition, as she, along with her teammates Wang Zhilin and Zhang Qiongyue, secured the silver medal in the team event with a combined score of 1,893.7 points.

Born in 2001, Han Jiayu commenced her shooting journey in 2013 when she joined the Huzhou Shooting Team under the guidance of coach Yu Dan from the Huzhou Sports School. Specializing in rifle shooting, she has showcased her exceptional talent in previous competitions. Han, along with her teammates, emerged victorious in the 10m women's air rifle team event at the 2021 National Shooting Championships. In addition, she claimed the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle team final at the 14th National Games. Earlier this year, she continued to demonstrate her prowess at the 2023 ISSF Shooting World Cup in Baku, where she claimed yet another gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle individual event.
