Conference delves into Chinese legal culture

The Third International Academic Conference on Shen Jiaben and Chinese Legal Culture was held in Huzhou on Oct 28, co-hosted by China University of Political Science and Law, the Huzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Huzhou Municipal People's Government. The conference aimed to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the passing of Shen Jiaben and discuss the preservation and promotion of legal culture in China.
More than 100 experts and scholars from domestic and international universities and academic institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China University of Political Science and Law, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Sun Yat-sen University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Central University of Finance and Economics, National Taiwan University, University of Munster in Germany, the University of Tokyo in Japan, and Pusan National University in South Korea, participated in the conference. They gathered to exchange ideas on the continuation and development of rule of law culture.
Shen Jiaben, a prominent figure in Chinese legal history, dedicated his life to revising several codes, leading to the abolition of brutal punishments such as "slow slicing" (lingchi). His contribution to China's legal modernization efforts earned him recognition as a pioneer in the field.
