More than 1,500 fitness enthusiasts from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, marked the beginning of 2024 with an invigorating 5-kilometer run.

The Anji bamboo leaf dragon dance, a cherished provincial intangible cultural heritage, also made a dazzling appearance to honor the New Year.

Zhang Weibo, leader of the dancing team, expressed, "As the leading group, we led the run for approximately 800 meters. This is the first time the dance has graced such an event." Zhang and his team began the rehearsal that morning as early as 6:00 am, aiming to infuse the Year of the Dragon with a renewed sense of prosperity and vitality.

Adugna Tesfaye Regasa, a young man from Ethiopia who has resided in Huzhou for the past year, expressed his delight at being invited to participate as one of the foreign athletes. He praised Huzhou as a city of remarkable beauty with warm-hearted people, extending his heartfelt New Year's greetings to everyone.

The event also featured an exquisite art exhibition and tantalized attendees with a delightful array of culinary delights. Additionally, 33 sports associations, including the Huzhou Football Association and the Huzhou Swimming and Lifesaving Association, actively engaged with the local community on-site. Through a diverse range of games and activities, these associations aimed to promote awareness and understanding of scientific principles related to sports and physical fitness.
