Poetic dance drama to enchant Huzhou audiences
A Chinese dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting, is set to be staged at the Huzhou Grand Theatre in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, on Sept 20 and 21.
The dance drama was inspired by A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains, a classic artwork created by artist Wang Ximeng during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). It weaves a tale of a modern Forbidden City researcher who travels back in time to when Wang was about to finish the work, allowing the audience to witness Wang's creative process.
Since its premiere at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in August 2021, the dance drama has toured over 70 cities and staged more than 570 performances nationwide. It has emerged as a cultural phenomenon, lauded for its artistic finesse, beautiful stage presentation, and rich cultural connotation.
The upcoming Huzhou performance, part of the city's 12th Huzhou Writing Brush Culture Festival, promises to immerse attendees in a visual and cultural feast. Ticket sales commenced on Sept 5 via the Damai app.
