The front square of the Huzhoudong Railway Station was recently completed, introducing a pioneering botanical garden concept, Tide News reported on Dec 24.
The square features 24 distinct botanical zones with over 180 plant species, including indigenous crops, ornamental flowers, and lush garden trees. It is the first botanical garden in the country to be located in front of a railway station.
The square is divided into three zones. The east zone focuses on agricultural cultivation, the central zone features dry fountains and a flower and bird market, and the west zone is dedicated to flower appreciation, with plans to transition from winter wheat to cultivating multicolored rice in the upcoming year, according to Wang Bo, the project's chief engineer.
With the opening of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-speed Railway on Dec 26, the botanical garden and Huzhoudong Railway Station are expected to elevate the city's aesthetic appeal to visitors.
