The Moganshan Bed and Breakfast Conference took place in Deqing county, Huzhou, Zhejiang province, on March 19, attracting over 1,000 industry professionals, scholars, and representatives from the homestay sector worldwide to discuss the future of homestay development.

With the domestic tourism market on the rise, competition in the homestay industry has intensified. The integration of rural cultural tourism presents both opportunities and challenges for homestay operators.

Deqing, known as a hub for high-end homestays, has adopted a fusion model that combines agriculture, culture, tourism, and sports.

Homestay owner Zheng Yatao, a graduate of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, exemplifies the trend toward unique offerings. His Moganshan Keyu Outland Homestay, themed around ceramics, offers guests hands-on ceramic DIY activities and displays his extensive collection of ceramic artworks, immersing visitors in ceramic culture.

To address homogeneity in the industry, other homestay owners are also diversifying their offerings, including herbal hot springs and horseback riding.

At the conference, the establishment of the Homestay Industry Common Prosperity Alliance and the release of the "Moganshan Common Prosperity Declaration" signaled a commitment to sustainable development within the sector.

With nearly 900 homestays in the Moganshan area in Deqing, the region welcomed over 9 million visitors in 2024, generating revenue exceeding 3 billion yuan ($441.65 million).
