Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province celebrated a remarkable achievement at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, where Fubai New Materials (Zhejiang) Co, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Fugang Metal Products Co, secured three international accolades.
The company, in collaboration with Southeast University, developed the iron-based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA) self-prestressing technology for smart infrastructure maintenance, which garnered the Gold Medal for Invention, the Jury's Special Commendation Gold Medal, and a Special Award from Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia.
Renowned for its high standards and prestige, the Geneva expo featured over a thousand innovative projects from nearly 40 countries and regions. The Chinese delegation excelled, earning a record 77 gold, 96 silver, and 55 bronze medals.
Fubai New Materials, based in Huzhou's Nanxun district, impressed the international jury with its technological originality and potential applications, highlighting its innovative prowess on a global stage.
The award-winning technology stems from extensive research into shape memory alloys, materials known for their ability to "remember" shapes, traditionally used in aerospace and biomedicine. The Fe-SMA technology addresses longstanding challenges in civil engineering, offering new solutions for smart infrastructure maintenance.
Fubai New Materials has successfully scaled up the production of Fe-SMA materials, with applications already benefiting key global research projects.
