The Deqing county public security bureau in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, recently received a heartfelt commendation from a Luxembourg couple.

This gratitude, facilitated by the Chinese Embassy in Luxembourg, followed a late-night rescue in the depths of Deqing county's Mogan Mountain scenic area.

At 6:59 pm, the Mogan town police station received a distress call from Mrs Flatter, a Luxembourg tourist, reporting that she and her husband Elie Flatter were lost in the mountains. The couple had taken an unfamiliar path while descending, becoming increasingly anxious as darkness fell and mobile signals faded.

The police swiftly activated an emergency response, with officer Xie Xiaoliang and auxiliary officers Li Qifeng and Wang Kaiyu rushing to the area and using loudspeakers to establish contact with the tourists. The command center coordinated a search using terrain maps and nearby patrols.

Despite dense bamboo forests and poor signals, the team located the couple by 7:30 pm. Officers provided them with water and confirmed their safety before escorting them back to their accommodation.

Mr Flatter later wrote to the Chinese Embassy in Luxembourg, praising the professionalism of the Mogan police. The embassy conveyed this appreciation to the Zhejiang provincial government, highlighting the rescue as a testament to the warmth of Chinese policing and the friendship between China and Luxembourg.
