Highlights from Huzhou's annual government work report
During the sixth session of the ninth Huzhou Municipal People's Congress, Lian Kunming, mayor of Huzhou, presented the municipal government work report on Jan 21, summarizing achievements from 2025 and significant progress made during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–25) period, and outlining objectives for 2026.
In 2025, Huzhou's GDP grew by 5.9 percent, with service sector value-added climbing by 5.7 percent.
Total retail sales of consumer goods grew by 3.9 percent. Tourism numbers and revenue also saw significant increases. The per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents rose by 4.2 percent and 5.6 percent, respectively.
In 2025, Huzhou's Deqing Freshwater Pearl Mussels Composite Fishery System was recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and Digang village was named a "Best Tourism Village" by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
Over the past five years, Huzhou's GDP grew from 314.38 billion yuan ($45.14 billion) to 445.28 billion yuan, with the total import-export value increasing from 113.2 billion yuan to 171.4 billion yuan.
In 2026, Huzhou aims for GDP growth of 5.5-6 percent, with urban unemployment below 5 percent and consumer price increases around 2 percent.
The government will prioritize eight areas, including driving industrial upgrades, enhancing technological innovation, pursuing common prosperity, advancing green growth, and improving public welfare.
