The festival Aobao activity
The festival Aobao activity is a traditional Inner Mongolian sacrificial ceremony. Aobao, Mongolian for “heap”, was built with stones atop mountains or hills, with colorful cloths and flags hung on the flagpoles and branches. Cushion stones were piled around Aobao with a whole sheep, kumiss, butter and cheese. In ancient times, the activity began with a Shaman drumming and praying. In recent years, it is a Lama who burns incense and chants. Herdsmen pray for a prosperous harvest and safety around Aobao.
