Largest land port on China-Mongolia border resumes normal operation

2023-01-11 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Ereenhot Port, the largest land port on the border of China and Mongolia, is gradually resuming its pre-COVID-19 customs clearance services.

This change is in line with the announcement made by the Chinese health authorities to downgrade the management of COVID-19 from category A to category B starting Jan 8.

From Jan 8, the customs clearance process at Ereenhot Port has gradually returned from "container hoisting" for virus prevention and control to its previous channel customs clearance process. This means that Mongolian drivers and passengers can drive trucks into China to transport goods.

Meanwhile, the types of imported and exported goods are also increasing, mainly mechanical equipment, household appliances, and commercial vehicles.

On Jan 9, a total of 18 domestically-produced buses passed customs clearance at Ereenhot Port on their way to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, becoming the first batch of export goods to enjoy the relaxed customs clearance policy.

It is understood that a total of 224 buses will be exported to Ulaanbaatar to improve public transport, and 189 buses will be exported before the Spring Festival.

Gao Yang, general manager of Inner Mongolia Xiangnuo International Freight Forwarding Co, stated that after the adjustment of the customs clearance policy at the port, the speed of customs clearance was faster and the cost for enterprises was reduced by 30 percent.

Ereenhot Port is located in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It is an important bridgehead for the country's "Belt and Road" construction and accelerates opening-up procedures to the north.

The port undertakes 70 percent of the land transportation tasks between China and Mongolia.

With the approach of the Spring Festival and the adjustment of port customs clearance policies, the import and export of goods at Ereenhot Port have shown an upward trend and are predicted to continue to grow, with more than 280 trucks entering and leaving the country through the port every day.
