Here are some of the best summer retreats in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, where tourists can enjoy idyllic scenery, savor local delicacies and try their hand at farming.

Xilu Garden

The 300-mu (20 hectares) Xilu Garden, which was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was the residence of renowned painter Wang Shimin (1592-1680).

The garden is a public park featuring pavilions, bamboo corridors and ecological landscapes.

Jincang Lake Park

The 5.6-square-kilometer Jincang Lake Park is an ecological park which also serves as a tourism resort, sports and leisure venue, and public green space.
