Dalian's Jinpu New Area, located in the south-central part of the city, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, occupies a total area of 2,299 square kilometers. As a national-level new area, Jinpu New Area features a superior geographical location, a prominent strategic position, and a solid economic foundation. It also boasts ideal conditions that drive the comprehensive revitalization of the old industrial bases in Northeast China and deepen regional cooperation in Northeast Asia.
Location advantages
Jinpu New Area is in the geographical center of Northeast Asia. As a hub of sea and land transportation in Northeast China, it connects the entire Northeast region through the Harbin-Dalian High-Speed Railway and the Dongbiandao Railway. It also serves as a center for the international routes of Northeast Asia, as well as serving as the region's sea and air gateway to the world. The area is also is an important hub for economic and trade exchanges and cooperation with Northeast Asian countries.
Excellent open environment
Dalian, where the new area is located, is an important international shipping center in Northeast Asia and is a leader in the coastal economic belt of Liaoning Province. The city is one of the first groups of coastal cities opening up to the outside world and one of the cities specially designated in the state plan.
In recent years, marked by the Summer Davos Forum and a series of major international economic cooperation projects, Dalian's superior open environment has been recognized internationally.
Jinpu New Area was built and designed based on many other special areas that have been launched in Dalian, including the Dalian Economic and Technological Zone, Dalian High-Tech Park, Dalian Bonded Area and Dalian Golden Pebble Beach National Tourist Resort. So far, 66 Fortune 500 companies have invested in the construction of 91 industrial projects in the new area, making the area an important platform for opening-up and improving cooperation in Northeast China.
Strong industrial and technological foundation
Jinpu New Area is the core cluster area of emerging industries in Dalian. A few emerging industrial clusters have taken shape, such as the high-end equipment manufacturing cluster, the whole vehicle and core parts industrial cluster, the electronic information industrial cluster, and the port and shipping logistics industrial cluster, which are able to participate in international competition. With obvious advantages in science, education and technical personnel, the new area serves as an important technological innovation center, and also as a scientific research achievement transformation base in Northeast China.
Well-developed sea, land and air transportation
The core port area of the Dalian Northeast Asia International Shipping Center was built in Jinpu New Area. It has modern professional berths that can handle 100,000 tons of containers, 300,000 tons of crude oil and ore, large grains and automobile roll-on-roll-off shipments.
The port has 39 deep-water berths for vessels of over 10,000 tonnes in deadweight (DWT), and has maintained trade contacts with more than 300 ports in over 160 countries and regions. More than 70 percent of foreign trade cargo transportation and 90 percent of foreign trade container transportation in Northeast China has been conducted through the port.
In addition, Dalian Port has established inland dry ports in important node cities in the northeast region and opened multimodal transportation. The Harbin-Dalian Railway, Harbin-Dalian High-Speed Railway, Dongbiandao Railway and Shenyang-Haikou Highway and Hegang-Dalian Highway all run through the new area. The Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport is also adjacent to the area.
Excellent ecological environment
Jinpu New Area has good natural endowments and a beautiful environment. In 2013, the forest coverage rate of the whole area was 45.3 percent, with the green coverage rate reaching 43.5 percent in the build-up area. With rich and diverse natural landscapes, the new area has six national nature reserves, scenic spots, forest parks, and geological parks, covering an area of more than 300 square kilometers. It also has 15 rivers, 13 small and medium-sized reservoirs, more than 120 square kilometers of coastal wetlands, and various types of water ecological resources.
