Rudong vegetables find favor with overseas markets

Nearly 25 tons of spinach produced at a cooperative in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province, will be transported to Shandong every day, according to local media reports on March 11.
The spinach is earmarked for export to overseas markets, including Japan, after being processed in Shandong.
The Fengrun vegetables cooperative in the county planted some 8 hectares of spinach and plans to harvest the crop in the next 15 days.
Zhu Jianxin, head of the cooperative, explained that the cooperative has established management systems to carefully control the use of agricultural chemicals and monitor growth conditions of the product, which has won praise from overseas buyers.
According to Zhang, the cooperative has a total planting area of 80 hectares and its vegetables are popular with overseas markets.
He said that in recent years the cooperative had introduced leading agricultural experts who offered technical support and had established partnerships with agricultural research institutes in Japan, South Korea and the Netherlands.
