Construction of small sewage disposal facilities is being promoted in Rudong county, Nantong, at a cost 800 million yuan ($113 million).

Small sewage disposal facilities are mainly used in remote villages that are not involved in the sewage disposal network. The facilities are expected to benefit about 50,000 rural households.

According to the project manager, the construction of such facilities was completed in 10 villages in the county in 2019, benefiting over 2,000 households, and 55 villages will have the facilities by the end of June 2020.

An integrated disposal facility can deal with 5 to 20 metric tons of sewage every day and some can deal with a maximum of 60 tons if needed.

The limited areas for construction in some villages created difficulties. Local officials and workers made field investigations, consulted with the villagers and then put forward scientific plans.

The sewage disposal facilities can help relieve the pressure on the improvement of rural water environments and reduce land pollution, said Chen Tianheng, an official at the county's bureau of housing and urban-rural development.
